Vintage Retro 60s Scandart African Teak Afromosia Armchair - Danish Wegner Style - Fully Renovated in Newham, Northumberland for sale
For sale fully renovated, original 1960's armchair manufactured by Scandart based in High Wycombe along side other companies such as Ercol and G plan in the 1950's / 60's. As their name suggests they produced Scandinavian / Danish inspired furniture of high quality build and retailed in relatively small numbers making key pieces increasingly rare and desirable. The armchair has a solid afromosia (african teak - which ranks among the most valued tropical timber species) frame, with sculptural Wegner style curved armrests. The cushions covers are in light brown microfibre fabric (kind of suede effect). It is a very dynamic shape, as can be seen in the side view. The armchair has been professionally restored to its original condition (restored frame, new foam pads and upholstery)and is being sold in as new condition. The only signs of use can be still seen on support springs which are intact and in good condition making it very comfortable to sit on. It has brand new upholstery in a light brown microfibre fabric, and compliments the solid afromosia frame beautifully. The seat cushion has been made with zips allowing it to be laundered professionally when needed. The frame has been striped of all old oil, any dents or scratches removed and re-oiled to a pristine condition. It is free of any damage, splits, repairs or wear to joints. The frame shows now the warm honey tones and wonderful grain, great mid- century modern design with all emphasis on form and function, with a low slung feel and upturned paddle/oar arms typical of this era - very Wegner!
